Upgraded Studio Space

Written by , Posted in Studio Update

It all started with a few more additions to the crew.  A friend of mine handed over three vintage mannequins from a retired pattern designer for free.  The space in my sewing room was limited, but I knew someday I wanted a large enough space to line them all up.

My sister kindly offered to let me switch rooms so I could have the larger space.  After thinking it over, I quickly moved and rearranged, and before I knew it, I had a new studio.

Absolutely loving the extra window space!  The light in the morning is just right.

Old Studio…

New Studio

A few projects have already made it’s way through this new work space and I can’t believe how efficient work is going!  Last touch to be made is a new cutting table about 50″ by 60″.  That will come a little later… I plan on building it myself.

From Basic To Unique

When you’re in a pinch, you tend to grab at anything you can think of to solve your problem.  This is a perfect example of one of those “I’m toast” moments.  After cutting out most of the dress, I realized I didn’t have a large enough piece of fabric to cut out the sleeves.  Also, the fabric was a one of a kind discovery, so there was no way to find more of this fabric anywhere.  This in fact, was not a pre-made dress for my shop, but a custom order for a valued customer.  There was no room for chucking the project for later.

Immediately I started brain storming with ideas of how I can pull this off, and then light bulb went on.  I realized I could cut my scraps into strips, gather them and sew them together to make a more intricate sleeve.

I’m thankful for those moments when things seem to be going wrong, but in the end it was a sharpening tool to get my brain thinking more creatively. 😉

Busy In The Studio

Written by , Posted in Studio Update

Many projects have passed through my little studio these past couple weeks.  From making quilt tops, long arm quilting, making more dresses for my shop, filling custom regency orders to a wedding alteration project.

Here, I am seam ripping the wedding dress to take the skirt off of the bodice.

Within the past two weeks, many exciting things have been happening within the walls of my sewing room!

The custom orders continue to come in steadily.

Recently I have been able to invest in new equipment!  I ordered a large white board to visually organize my orders and schedule.

I was also able to purchase a better quality camera!  I did, in fact, switch to Nikon. 😉

After receiving my new camera, I slipped outside to snap a few pictures.   I was so amazed at the clarity, even with the standard lens!

Many times I have felt that I need to push things a long with my business.  Instead, I’m learning that the Lord will direct my paths.  He continues to open opportunities that I couldn’t have planned.

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.  -Matthew 6:33

Until next time,
