Civil War Ball Gown

Written by , Posted in Civil War Era

My first civil war dress of 2016!  After working on this gown, I am so motivated to experiment on other designs from the 1860s era.  I also learned a couple new techniques that I hope to use on many other projects this year.

Here I am fitting the bodice according to the customers size.

And here goes more hand stitching.

Because I didn’t have a grommet setter I had to hand stitch the holes by hand.

Looking Back At 2015

Written by , Posted in New Year Post

The past 12 months have been an exciting year for the Tailorette.  This year was also jam-packed full of practical lessons for life.  Out of all the years in my life so far, I think I will remember 2014-2015 the most.  What will stick with me forever is the work of Christ renewing my mind and discarding the old way of thinking.  Realizing more and more that I need to focus on Christ and rely on Him for everything and not on my own strength.   I am amazed at all that the Lord has done in my life in  2015!

Romans 12:2
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

2015 was a big year for my business. Even though my Etsy shop has been open for 5 years, I didn’t really start making it my full time business until this past year. It is also the first year I expanded my work outside of the internet.  2015 was a year of getting on my feet and developing my business.

Last year in January I started out the year by purchasing a new batch of fabric…

Once the fabric arrived, I was hard at work trying to save enough money to expand my small business.

It wasn’t that long until I needed my own studio.  The pink room in the house was handed over to me… I love everything about my new room, except the pink! 😉

At this point I was ready for more mannequins and other odd things to keep my studio organized.

The saree dresses ended up being a real hit this year… so I needed more fabrics!

And to top off the end of the year, I made my very own quilt on Christmas break!

And that wraps up 2015… looking forward to getting my hands busy for 2016!
